Multiplayer is really micromanagement intensive trying to get into better position/cover than the other player during engagements which several can be going on at once across the map. You also need to hold resource points around the map to be able to upgrade/train new units though you will want to reinforce your squads and repair vehicles instead of letting them die.

The goal in multiplayer games is to hold victory points that dwindle down the other side's points until they hit zero. The game gets really fun in multiplayer since their are many different strategies you can go with you can practice against the computer in skirmish games before going against other people. The replay-ability of the campaigns is kinda low unless you want to try and beat the missions with different strategies. The Tales of Valor expansion adds three short campaigns(more like scenarios), they are still fun and focus more on a story and has more unit abilities. The campaigns are fun getting to play Americans from storming Normandy to closing the Falaise Pocket, the Panzer Elite defending against Operation Market Garden, and the British capture of Caen(Opposing Fronts). Company of Heroes has become one of my favorite games and I have had a lot of fun with it. I haven't played Dawn of War so I don't know how it compares to Company of Heroes. Tl dr base game + opposing fronts is worth it, unsure on tales of valor. Yes, there's micro-style gameplay in CoH but it focuses on tossing grenades to disrupt that machine gun nest, and not rotating your units in and out to evenly spread damage among all your marines. I haven't personally played tales of valor so I can't really say if that's worth it or not, but I know it doesn't come with any more factions but it does come with more types of missions and a few more units.Īs a whole Company of Heroes is a fantastic game, it's a lot of fun that focuses more on tactical gameplay and making smart decisions with the best of your resources, in comparison to Starcraft II's style of RTS which does a lot of mini-level micro gameplay. The base game + opposing fronts is 100% worth it as opposing fronts gives you 2 more factions for a total of 4: British, US, Wehrmacht, and Panzer Elite. The game does feature capture points as a means of getting resources but you build a base at your starting location and very rarely will you be building any production buildings in forward lines, however you will be making machine gun nests, booby traps, barbed wire, etc. Truthfully CoH is a bridge between the two of those. Which Dawn of War are you talking about? If you're referring to DoW I then this is not really similar as DoW I had you building massive bases across the map, whereas in DoW II you were tasked with building your own personalized squads that had their own customizable weapons.
